Researchers, teachers, and undergraduates majoring in physics will find this book helpful. It is also used as a reference work for other science majors and other academics interested in quantum science.
Yu-Ao Chen has done outstanding research on experimental quantum information and quantum simulation based on manipulation of photons and atoms. He is a Fellow of Optica (former Optical Society of America) and American Physical Society. In the past years, Yu-Ao Chen together with his colleagues has performed a number of significant experiments in the field. His experiments were featured widely in scientific news services like: Nature and Nature journals, Physics World, Physics News Update, Scientific American and so on. He was recognized by many prestigious prizes including the 2013 Fresnel Prize for fundamental aspects from the European Physical Society, the Qiu Shi Outstanding Youth Scholar in China, the 2016 Young Scientist Award for the Commission on Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, 2016 Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Award in Math and Physics, and the 2019 Xplorer Prize from Tencent Foundation. Meanwhile, since 2013, he was appointed as the Chief Engineer for Quantum Communication Beijing-Shanghai Backbone project, which aiming a quantum secure communication network from Beijing to Shanghai over more than 2000 kilometers. Based on the accomplished Beijing-Shanghai Backbone, currently real-world applications by banks, securities and insurance companies are on trial. Jian-Wei Pan, born on 11 March 1970, received his bachelor’s degree (1992) in Physics and a master’s (1995) from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, and his Ph.D. (1999) from the University of Vienna. He is currently a Professor of Physics of the University of Science and Technology of China, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He serves as the Director of the CAS Center for Excellence in Quantum Information and Quantum Physics, and the Chief Scientist for the Quantum Science Satellite Project. Jian-Wei Pan’s research fields focus on quantum foundations, quantum optics, and quantum information. He has authored more than 300 articles which have attracted more than 40000 citations (Google scholar). Pan has won Fresnel Prize from European Physical Society, Quantum Communications Award, First Prize of National Prize for Natural Sciences of China, Willis E. Lamb Award for Laser Science and Quantum Optics, Newcomb Cleveland Prize from American Association for the Advancement of Science, R. W. Wood Prize from Optical Society of America, Micius Quantum Prize and Zeiss Research Award, and was named by Nature as “People of the Year” in 2017 who “took quantum communication to space and back”.
