This book provides comprehensive coverage of techniques for the computational modeling, including materials models, for geotechnical engineering. Practicing engineers will find that the book provides a deep understanding as well as practical advice on computational modeling, so enabling them to make reliable use of engineering software. The author uses his considerable experience to provide the reader with an understanding of research relevant to both the finite element and geotechnical engineering fields. The book is both theoretical and practical. A number of instructive examples, derived using the GEO FEM software, accompany the theoretical formulations. Nevertheless, the richness of this book goes beyond a simple use of software and may serve as teaching material for both masters courses and doctoral students in the field of plasticity, numerical modeling or stochastic analysis. Those interested in implementing their own constitutive models may also benefit from the book.
Professor Michal Sejnoha has been a full professor at the Department of Mechanics, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague since 2008. His research interests include geometrical and constitutive modeling of ceramic, metal and polymer matrix composites with random microstructures, modeling of transport processes in soils and masonry structures, and constitutive modeling of soils. His applied research includes the development of the finite element software GEO FEM and GEO Tunnel, in cooperation with the software company FINE Ltd, in collaboration with major construction companies in the Czech Republic.
