The important concept of quantum chaos is studied here in the context of the semiclassical limit of chaotic quantum systems. Special attention is paid to mesoscopic systems and to applications to nuclear physics. These theoretical and experimental review articles should help toward a better understanding of the notion of quantum chaos. The book is recommended for use in graduate-student seminars.
Until now the important concept of quantum chaos hasremained somewhat ill defined. This volume tackles theubiquitous borderline between classical andquantummechanics, studying in particular the semiclassical limit ofchaotic systems. The effects of disorder from dynamics andtheir relation to stochastic systems, quantum coherenceeffects in mesoscopic systems, and the relevant theoreticalapproaches are fruitfully combined in this volume. The majorparadigms of what is called quantum chaos, random matrixtheory and applications to condensed matter and nuclearphysics are presented. Detailed discussions of experimentalwork with particular emphasis on atomic physics areincluded. The book is highly recommended forgraduate-student seminars.
