In Molloy, Malone Dies and The Unnameable, this book seeks to highlight Samuel Beckett's trajectory in composing a narrative known for challenging the limits of representation, emphasising the precariousness of thought and language, which fail in their attempts to grasp the real being of things. In this context, considering that representation is a game that arises from the inarticulable chaos of reality, we draw on Cartesian philosophy and the thought of the Czech-Brazilian philosopher Vilém Flusser about reality and language, in an attempt to highlight the imprecise nature of the Beckettian novel in the face of the word that silences.

Ulisses Augusto Guimarães Maciel is a public school teacher in the municipality of Serra in Espírito Santo. He has a degree in English Language and Literature and a Master's in Literature (UFES). He has been researching Samuel Beckett since 2010 and is currently studying the decadence of the bourgeois order and its implications for Beckettian aesthetics.
