Food in Care

This text gives the basic information on food and relates it in a practical way to various groups of people and their needs: children and young people, older people, those with special needs, those being cared for in residential or day care centres, and those being cared for in the community.

A text in the Macmillan Caring Series. The importance of food is reflected in the NVQs/SVQs for care and child care and education and in the GNVQs in health and social care. Students and trainees need to have basic knowledge and understanding about food, nutrition and diet. Food in Care gives this basic information and relates it in a practical way to various groups of people and their needs: children and young people, older people, those with special needs, those being cared for in residential or day care centres, those being cared for in the community. Guidance on planning meals and menus is given together with information on food and kitchen safety. A basic primer on food, diet and nutrition for those working or training in health and social care. It is suitable for trainees at NVQ/SVQ levels 2 and 3 and for GNVQ health and social care candidates.
