The book focuses on the more common diseases, but does include lighter coverage of some rare diseases. Features include case histories at the end of each chapter; guidelines for choosing diagnostic tests; an appendix listing disease with breeding predilection; new material and examples of newer imaging techniques including CT scans; an analysis of the neurologic examination including anatomy, physiology, and how to interpret abnormal responses; coverage of a greater number of diseases of the large animal; more detail on important diseases such as cauda equine syndrome, polyneuropathies, inherited diseases, trauma and metabolic disease; two new chapters on "Pain" and "Disorders of Involuntary Movement"; a new table of poisonous plants causing neurologic disease in large animals.

Part 1 Fundamentals: neurologic history and examination; localization of lesion in the nervous system; disorders of micturition; confirming of diagnosis; principles of medical treatment. Part 2 Clinical problems - signs and symptons: paresis of one limb; pelvic limb paresis, paralysis or ataxia; tetraparesis, hemiparesis or ataxia; ataxia of the head and the limbs; disorders of the face, tongue, oesophagus, larynx and hearing; disorders of involuntary movement; blindness, anisocoria and abnormal eye movements; stupor or coma; seizures and narcolepsy; pain; systemic or multifocal signs.
