Instantaneous Active and Reactive Power Theory and Applications presents a deep review of power theories and shows that the instantaneous active power theory gives an important basic knowledge for the understanding and designing of power active filters, both shunt and series.
This book presents a deep review of various power theories and shows how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory provides an important basic knowledge for understanding and designing active filters for power conditioning. The only book of its kind, it also demonstrates how the instantaneous active and reactive power theory can be used for combined shunt-series filters and in Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS).

Hirofumi Akagi is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, where he teaches power electronics. He was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1996, and as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Industry Applications and Power Electronics Societies for 1998-1999. He was the recipient of both the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award in 2001 and the IEEE Industry Applications Society Outstanding Achievement Award in 2004. Edson Hirokazu Watanabe is Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and has published papers in IEEE Transactions and IEE Proceedings. In 2005, he was admitted to the National Order of Scientific Merit (Brazil). Mauricio Aredes is Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where he teaches power electronics. He has published more than twenty peer-reviewed journal papers and eighty in conference proceedings.
