Hirofumi Akagi is Professor of Electrical Engineering at theTokyo Institute of Technology, where he teaches power electronics.He was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE in 1996, and as aDistinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Industry Applications and PowerElectronics Societies for 1998-1999. He was the recipient ofboth the IEEE William E. Newell Power Electronics Award in 2001 andthe IEEE Industry Applications Society Outstanding AchievementAward in 2004. Edson Hirokazu Watanabe is Professor of ElectricalEngineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ),where he teaches power electronics. He is a Senior Member of IEEEand has published papers in IEEE Transactions and IEE Proceedings.In 2005, he was admitted to the National Order of Scientific Merit(Brazil). Mauricio Aredes is Associate Professor of ElectricalEngineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ),where he teaches power electronics. He has published more thantwenty peer-reviewed journal papers and eighty in conferenceproceedings.
