This book details new materials development for these land, air, and space transportation applications, emphasizing physical properties, research theories, and cutting-edge processing technologies, as well as advanced high-precision inspection methodologies.
As transportation systems for land, air, and space vehicles continue to grow increasingly sophisticated, more advanced materials are needed to support their development and commercialization. Materials for Land, Air, and Space Transportation details new materials development for these transportation applications, emphasizing physical properties, research theories, and cutting-edge processing technologies, as well as advanced high-precision inspection methodologies.

• Covers materials, design, and manufacturing for lightweight vehicles, high-speed trains, fuel cell vehicles, and aerospace and aeronautical use.

• Focuses on the newest material function and processing technologies, covering nanotechnology, modern additive manufacturing techniques, and physical and mechanical studies of structure-sensitive properties of materials.

• Describes theoretical deduction, numerical simulation, and experimental studies of various materials.

This reference will be of interest to engineers and researchers in the disciplines of materials, mechanical, and transportation engineering, and related areas.

Professor Yu Yinquan (余银犬) earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering at Chongqing University, China and a Master of Engineering in Mechatronics, and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He was a Scientist at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*star), Singapore. In January 2019, he joined the School of Mechatronics and Vehicle Engineering, East China Jiaotong University, Nanchang, China, and assumed duties of the Director of the Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing and Precision Research, the Director of the Intelligent Transportation Tools and Power Control Research Center and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of transport tools and equipment of the Ministry of Education. Prof. Yu was elected as a Fellow of SAS (2020), a member of ASME, Singapore executive committee member ASME (2017–2018), a Senior member of IES (2018) and IEEE (2019), and a mentor of the Lean Launch Pad Singapore (2018). He was also elected into the Double Thousands Program of Jiangxi Province (2019) and the Top Overseas Experts Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC (2021). Since 2024, he has been as a director of Singapore Manufacturing Intelligent Technologies and an adjunct Professor in East China Jiaotong University and that of Xiamen University Malaysia. Professor Sam Zhang Shanyong (張善勇), FRSC, FTFS, FIoMMM, academically known as Sam Zhang, was born and brought up in the famous "City of Mountains" Chongqing, China. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Materials in 1982 from Northeastern University (Shenyang, China), Master of Engineering in Materials in 1984 from Iron & Steel Research Institute (Beijing, China) and Ph.D. degree in Ceramics in 1991 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. He was a tenured full professor (since 2006) at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University Singapore. Between 2018 and 2022, he was Professor at the School of Materials and Energy, Southwest University, China and and served as the founding director of the Centre for Advanced Thin Films and Devices. Since 2023, he has been a Professor at the School of Aeronautics, Harbin Institute of Technology, and is also affiliated with HIT Zhengzhou Research Institute.
