This report comprises renewable energy sources statistics for the 12 Member States of the European Union for the years 1991, 1990 and 1989, along with the methodology for the collection of statistics and their incorporation in the energy balance sheets.

Present policies in favour of new and renewable energy technologies recognized their importance in improving the security of supplies and reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases. Energy demand is met today by a broader range of energy sources, a trend which will certainly also be observed in the future.
