A one-stop resource for understanding and applyingpolymerization catalysts

An edited volume featuring contributions from leadingresearchers, the Handbook of Transition Metal PolymerizationCatalysts covers the design and synthesis of catalysts, andtheir applications in synthesis of polymers. Dealing with thosepolymerization catalysts that afford commercially acceptable yieldsof polymer with respect to catalyst mass and promising newercatalysts, this practical reference provides polymer and organicchemists with a comprehensive overview of the known methods fordeveloping and applying these important catalysts.

With both recent advances and historically important catalysts,the subjects covered in this text include:
* Metal alkyls and other compounds that function as co-catalystswith a large number of catalysts
* The varieties of porous silica either necessary or valuable incertain catalyst formulations
* Catalyst scale-up and commercialization
* Copper catalysts for olefin polymerization
* Morphology control

Along with the above topics, the Handbook of Transition MetalPolymerization Catalysts provides tables of valuable data toassist in reproducing a synthesis or applying the knowledge to anew problem. Polymerization reactivities, polymer properties,monomer and solvent purity requirements, molecular weights,distribution, and reactivity ratios are also covered. TheHandbook of Transition Metal Polymerization Catalysts offersan excellent one-stop resource for understanding and applyingpolymerization catalysts.

Ray Hoff is a member of the adjunct faculty at RooseveltUniversity in Schaumburg, Illinois. He is a former researchscientist in polymerization catalysts for B.F. Goodrich, ChemplexCompany, and Quantum Chemical Corporation. He holds twenty-sevenU.S. patents in the field of polymerization catalysts, and hissilica-based catalyst inventions scaled up to manufacturing morethan 100 million pounds of production in the U.S. and theNetherlands. Robert T. Mathers is an Assistant Professor of Chemistryat Penn State University. He has coauthored over twenty scientificpapers in the areas of anionic, metallocene, and ring-openingpolymerizations, and holds one U.S. patent. After receiving a BS(1996) in chemistry from North Carolina State University and a PhD(2002) in polymer science from the University of Akron, he spenttwo years as a postdoctoral researcher at Cornell University in theDepartment of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. Currently, Dr.Mathers research investigates new methods to integrate renewableresources and catalysis.

Index.

"The Handbook of Transition Metal Polymerization Catalystsprovides an up-to-date overview of various transition metal speciesand their utility in polymerization. The sixteen chapters offercomplete coverage of both early and late transition metal catalystsas well as heterogeneous and homogeneous approaches.... Thecontributions to this handbook are very well written by anappropriate balance of industrial and academic experts.... Thisauthoritative compilation is sure to be invaluable to anyoneworking near the intersection of transition metals andpolymerization chemistry."
