Mitchell L. Yell is the Fred and Francis Lester Palmetto Chair in Teacher Education and professor of special education at the University of South Carolina. Yell has published 124 journal articles, five textbooks, twenty-six book chapters, and has conducted numerous workshops on various aspects of special education law, classroom management, and progress monitoring. He also serves as a state-level due process review officer in South Carolina. Prior to working in higher education, Yell was a special education teacher in Minnesota for sixteen years. David F. Bateman is professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Special Education at Shippensburg University, where he teaches courses on special education law, assessment, and facilitating inclusion. He has recently coauthored the following books: A Principal’s Guide to Special Education, A Teacher’s Guide to Special Education, Charting the Course: Special Education in Charter Schools, and the forthcoming Special Education Leadership: Building Effective Programming in Schools and Current Trends and Issues in Special Education. He is a former classroom teacher and a former due process hearings officer. Jim G. Shriner is associate professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Previously he was assistant professor of education at Clemson University and senior researcher for the National Center of Educational Outcomes (NCEO) at the University of Minnesota. His work includes research on the effects of federal and state education policies and the priorities of educational services for students with disabilities. Shriner currently serves as a member of the Expert Cadre Panel within NCEO and is an advisor to the Student Assessment Divisions for the states of Illinois, South Dakota, and Texas.
