Alan M. Garber is a staff physician with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Henry J. Kaiser, Jr. Professor, Professor of Medicine, Professor of Economics, Professor of Business, and Professor of Health Research and Policy at Stanford University. He is also Director of the Health Care Program at the NBER. Irving Singer was Professor of Philosophy at MIT. He was the author of the trilogies The Nature of Love and Meaning in Life, Philosophy of Love: A Partial Summing-Up, Mozart and Beethoven: The Concept of Love in Their Operas, all published by the MIT Press, and many other books.
