CHAPTER 1

THE INITIATING MIND

Mind is not just a rational portent of thought, but rather it designs the scaffolding upon which we construct our reality.

When I was about seven, I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I quickly answered, “I am going to be an explorer of the mind.” I realize now what an odd answer that was. It occurs to me that it might have been a memory playback of a time at about 5 years old when I was taken to a testing facility where I was observed by professionals behind a false mirror. I knew there were people behind that mirror, so I kept touching it to find them. I felt as if someone were peering into my head, just as I was trying to peer into their presence behind the screen, wondering what it was that they were trying to decipher. I understood that it had to do with what I was, or should be doing, in my mind, but I could not understand what was so important about that for them.

As I write about Potential Body, I am profoundly aware how mind sculpts both a sense of limits, as well as being the vehicle to access limitlessness. My intent is to stretch the ceiling of intelligent or rational potential into a new horizon that might allow us all to escape our density of mental existence and arrive onto an expanded plateau of holographic conscious experience.

Experience transits the borders of what seems to be and what might become. In effect, reality as a frozen point of the moment, is overcome by an impetus from an unseen source that comes to the fore through the undeniable truth of experience that expands all possibility. The mind of which I speak is a portent of its unseen and unfathomable partner— cosmic consciousness.

The Chinese have said for millennium that, “everything is connected to everything.” I perceive that this connectedness is an unending spiral of a timeless evolutionary motion that knits together such things as ideas and physical reality. Thus, what we think about our bodies, might create these bodies.

Einstein echoed this same illumination in his perception of relativity. He saw cause and effect and wrote the mathematical story of a universe in eternal relativity with its infinite constituents of itself.

In the rational world of science today, we very much need to find that inextricable glue of connection between what is, and what can be. We seem to have difficulty putting the pieces together; one piece of information does not inevitably correlate, as it should, into another to create a more conclusive whole that might open an entirely new direction of experiential potential.

A simple example of this discrepancy between information and application was my experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1962, when I went to El Salvador as a Community Developer and “expert in nutrition.” As I was preparing for my work to improve the nutrition of rural populations, I discovered the wide reaching effects of the B vitamins on the bodily systems. Surveying what was known about the B vitamin complex, I was simply staggered by the tremendous wealth of scientific data confirming its effect on the nervous system and the body in general.

B vitamins engage in synergistic and complimentary actions aligned to nerve function, cell metabolism, prevention of infection, enzymatic and hormonal balance, growth of red blood cells, reduction of allergies, etc. I was dismayed that the “Bs” were not being utilized for their all- encompassing influence on the function of almost every cell of the body when the evidence was clearly accessible. I took it upon myself to find ways to include B vitamin uptake into my nutritional work with the result of great strides in the health of many people in my village.

The scientific information was readably available, but it was not translated into medical practice. Unfortunately, this gap between information and application still exists today to the detriment of us all. On the positive side, many people have become nutritional investigators for themselves and are discovering information that is still overlooked in medical school education and Western medicine practice as a whole.

Though such information about nutrition and other aspects of the body’s needs for optimum health are interesting, this book is not meant to be a scientific treatise; it is meant to be a tool of self discovery such as to illuminate a higher purpose of embodiment and how to wield our physicality through new potential pathways as to become guardians and masters of our human form.

It is time to not only discover how to have a healthy body, but to dissolve the limits of its potential by weaving together our subtle bodies with our physical one so that we can use them both in ways that may seem super-human at this moment.

An elevated state of consciousness becomes our guide in order to focus our abilities to create a new kind of Potential Body. It is an experiment of conscious directives in which you and I are, in effect, the volunteers and the creators— we cannot be hurt and we cannot fail because it is an opening to a new potential of experience— of living on an entirely new level of existence and cognitive reality.

No one has considered how to do it before, or whispered that everyone can do it, because it is psychogenetically hidden within the far reaches of our unique genome: it is new to our human awareness, but very old to our cosmic source.

What if through our imagination and focus, we could alter the quality and expanse of our brain functioning? That, in itself, would offer us a catapultic leap of potential reality. Could we not only influence the autonomic nervous system that has been assumed to be outside of our conscious control, but bring it into optimal concert with our physical health through focused mental directives? Could we affect the healing and renewal of our own bodies through our minds? Could we actually design a new body? Absolutely!

The power of the mind is a key tool for commanding our bodies and bringing the energy of focus to initiate any changes we want to ask our body to make for us. When we can hold a clear picture of what it is we want in our mind’s eye, our body can follow suit and create that.

It may seem hard to conceive that what you think makes a difference, but it does. Holding the picture may literally mean seeing an image, or it may be a thought form—“I love the way I move,” or even a sensation of the experience of it—like the feeling of effortless flexibility while running or dancing, for example. You simply become aware of it, and then imprint it as your true state of being. The power of transiting a thought into reality is greatly expanded by the emotional sensations that accompany it. Thus, if you can experience what it feels like emotionally to access the attribute, it will put a myriad of energies in play for its realization.

It is not our bodies that are counting the distance from youth to the present—or advancing age—it is our ever-critical, self-evaluation that scorches our physical form. These negative imprints arise in our youth and become the ever-present repetitive mantras of our self-image.

Creating health and balance in your body is not mind over matter, it is mind into matter and thus, mind within matter! Mind is not just a rational portent of thought, but rather it designs the scaffolding upon which you construct your reality. The “mind” of the cell receives the code that you send it through your conscious focus, and draws it into form by manifesting its very essence. It is that simple! This is why it is imperative to improve the quality of your thoughts and discover the power of your mental landscapes.

Mind is the helix that holds the consciousness of potential.

It is important to realize that a thought is just the helix of the energy it brings to form. When you think a word such as happiness, for example, you must allow the energy of happiness to take hold in your mind.

You might experience it as a smile, a sense of pleasure, a wild kind of ecstasy, or even a quiet peaceful feeling. We have more than 70 senses through which to experience life, and it is the sense of the thought that creates the manifestation of its meaning.

THE TWICE-A-DAY HABIT

I give myself my “twice-a-day habit” of programming what I want to experience just before I sleep and when I first wake up. In this way, I set the energies that will support me and lift my body into a vibrant and enlightened state of health.

The first thought that comes to me is extremely powerful—“I am happy!”

Happiness always includes a sense of safety and openness. Safety helps us to sleep, and openness is the best way to start the day. When we feel safe, we can access a sense of peace. Peacefulness allows us to perceive potential without the stress of need, but rather a kind of awareness that leads to manifestation.

Many people think that happiness is a kind of energy that is conditional upon outside circumstances, i.e., if they have money, a good job, a partner, etc.—but happiness truly comes from our own inner- perceptions. We can actually choose to be happy. How? By turning our attention to the myriad of things or experiences that make us happy, and delving into them—even if we are replaying them from the past, or imagining them coming to us in the arc of the future.

Stop for a moment and bring to mind...
