'Seeing Light and Dark' details a journey into the spiritual growth of a nurse from her gifted childhood to becoming the experienced energy healer of the present.
At times humorous and educational; then tumbling into darkness with disturbing truths that you could never have imagined. Perhaps you remember the scary stories told around the campfire when you were young, the stories that made it just a little difficult to get to sleep. Most were urban legends. How would you like to read a few new scary stories--only these tales are frighteningly true. Have you ever had the experience of hair rising at the back of your neck? Feeling in your gut not to go toward a situation or a person? Here you will learn some of the reasons you reacted that way. The author can see the unseen and tells you what it looks, smells, and feels like to her.

Chapter 1

Angels and Protection

“Angels are intelligent reflections of light, that original light which has no beginning. They can illuminate. They do not need tongues or ears, for they can communicate without speech, in thought.”

—John of Damascus

There are people who believe in angels and there are some who do not. I am a believer in the Realm of Angels—yes, the angels of the wings, halos, bright lights, and grace. A human being can only describe what they see in the context of the earth experience. Angels are light and radiate love, which has been translated into wings and halos. The word angel is commonly used to describe a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, an agent, or a messenger of God. Conventionally, in art, the angels are represented in human form with wings and long robes. When a person sees an angel, they put into the experience what they have known or been told in their own life about how it should be. There are many references in the Bible to angels who brought messages from God.

You may have heard that there are seven types of angels. People who study and write about angels describe themselves as ones who pursue “Angelology.” The Medieval Christian theologians categorized angels into several orders, or “Angel Choirs.” Thomas Aquinas took passages from the New Testament to develop a triad of angels. There is quite a bit written on angels, and it has always been confusing to me. One of my favorite books is Angels: Dark and Light by Gary Kinnaman.

More than “seeing angels,” I see what they do to provide protection in my life and the lives of others. There are angels that I feel move in and out of my auric field from time to time. I believe in the archangels Michael, Raphael, Gabriel, and Uriel, to name a few of the many. Books abound with references as to what the specific angels can do, but I merely let them know that I need help, and change happens.

The angels have helped me in my day-to-day life since I was a child. There was always a feeling of being protected, of not being alone. Once while riding my bike in training for a triathlon, I crossed a busy intersection with the traffic light being green for me to pass. Half way through, a car raced up from the left and tried to cut in front of me. Suddenly, as if in slow motion, my bike lifted up and literally moved back three feet. If my bike had not been moved, the car would have hit me at a great rate of speed. Two other drivers stared at me in disbelief; I believe they saw it too. Which angel was it? Was it there with me already or did it sense the need to protect me? I am not sure. This angel was a strong one, a powerful one, yet I never felt the need to know a specific name. It was more important for me to be thankful for the experience and the protection.

Angels, I am told, cannot intervene unless we call upon them. Thus, the reason I ask for protection when I begin to drive in my car, take a bike ride, or sign in for work. We have free will, and even if they believe they know the best for us, they cannot interfere. You can ask for help silently, but I think it works best if you speak your need aloud. Angels are the messengers of God, the Source, or the Creator. When I ask God for help, the Creator sometimes sends the angels. It is said that we are all born with at least two angels in attendance. One on the left for our nurturing and one on the right that is the warrior. I am not sure if that is true, but that is also what I see when I do an energy reading for someone.

During an energy reading session, I will see the angels of the other person. Some people have many angels, but there are always at least the two primary ones. I cannot tell another person’s angels what to do; it doesn’t work that way. Only the individual can ask for intersession. Yet, it is allowed for me to ask my angels to help someone in my family line, and it is more of a prompt, not an instruction. I will call upon the Angel of Mercy along with the four archangels if it is serious prayer business. There is great power in calling upon the angels.

Many people believe that angels are here to help us adapt and survive on earth. Angels work for God (or the Creator or the Source) and their powers are vast yet finite and they have free will. I believe there are certain angels for specific times in our lives. We need only ask for help.

What about the “fallen angels” or “fallen ones”?

“We don’t become angels merely by the instrument of death. If we are angels now, we will be angels in the hereafter. If we are dark, negative personalities, we will be the same after death.”

—Paramahansa Yogananda

Dark and fallen ones are definitely present in and around us and they can be problematic. Dark angels can enter our auric space (the energetic field that surrounds all living beings) at different times and in different ways. It is believed by some that the fallen ones were once light angels and were cast out. Many religions will assign a name for the fallen ones. In Hindu traditions, they believe that the creator god, Brahma, made some of the angelic beings good and some evil from the very beginning. Why? Because it is meant to illustrate the natural order of things. It is about the balance in the Universe.

Fallen ones do not exist in Islam. The Islamic tradition says that all angels are good. They also believe that Satan is not an angel cast down from the heavenly realm, but a “jinn,” a creature made from fire and free will.

For me, the fallen ones are dark spirits or entities who come from somewhere else, or even just beyond the veil wandering the dark realm. As with us human beings, dark spirits can be in different stages of evolution. Some dark beings can be very hard to deal with while others can easily be cleared from a person’s auric space. One thing I have learned about the fallen ones is that they are very terrified of the Creator’s light. I am not sure who or what told them to be afraid. Due to the laws of nature, once you command the spirit to leave in the name of the Creator, or of Jesus Christ, they have to leave. They must obey the command, although some will try to slink back in.

The work of the dark entities takes place in the dark and the shadows to avoid being seen by the light. There is the use of “smoke and mirrors” to make things seem different than they are. The dark are truly the great deceivers. The mood takes on a deep seriousness when they know that you see them, and they fear that you are going to remove them or cast them out. A mild-appearing dark shadow can suddenly become a massive shape with exposed sharp teeth screeching into your face. In the sessions listed in this book, you will find various examples of how they look to me when they come into my vision.

We can and should ask our angels for protection. Belief in guardian angels can be traced down throughout time. Christians may believe in guardian angels and that individual angels are assigned to us. In Islam, there is the belief that each person has two angels, one in the front and one behind while two recorders are on the right and left. Unseen beings are reported in art and writing in every part of the world and in every belief system or religion.

Angels are as relevant today as they were in the beginning of time. Ask in advance for protection by the angels when you are to be around other people, when you do energy healing work, and when you start your day. In the shower in the mornings, while having your coffee or tea, call on your guides and angels to provide protection for you during the day. Ask that the Creator, the Source, or God put into your path just the right people you are to meet and serve.

We are not truly alone in this journey of being on the earth. Angels both light and dark are just beyond the veil, hidden ever so slightly—with the dark presenting as deceivers and accusers and the light appearing as strength and protection. There are also angels in the form of people who come into our lives to teach us lessons. You will know them when you look into their eyes. Take the time out of your busyness to look into the eyes of those you encounter—coworkers, grocery clerks, people you pass on the street. Songs and movies about angels on earth bring us the idea of what this might look like. You will miss the angels if your attention is constantly on your cell phone. What better way to separate us from one another than to take away the connection of eye contact and a smile.

“Angels transcend every religion, every philosophy, every creed. In fact Angels have no religion as we know it. Their existence precedes every religious system that has ever existed on Earth.”

—Thomas Aquinas

What is it like to meet an angel in real life? How do I know that it is not just a person? My friend Candi told me the story of meeting an Earth Angel. While walking her dog one evening, a man approached her. He could have been homeless, or just a little disheveled, she wasn’t sure. The man struck up a conversation with her. He told her he could see her good energy and that she and her dog were closely matched in their energy fields. He said he was supposed to ask her something.

Candi is a light healer and though she did not fear the man, she did put up a hedge of protection to keep their energy fields clear and separate. Always a good idea to add a layer of unconditional love...
