We are given a story at birth, the story that our family and those around us tell us about who we are. It becomes our identity. We learn more about our story as we move out into the world to explore life. We build on it over time adding more and more pieces, but many of us reach a point where we know that this story isn’t who we really are, because our inner knowledge of ourselves doesn’t match the outside experience of life. Maybe you have reached that point yourself. You may feel that something is missing in your life or that your life isn’t working the way you want it to. Life can feel painful and confusing when things feel out of alignment with the truth of who you are. Yet this discomfort can actually be a good sign. It could mean that you’re receiving a big clue from your “true” self that it’s time to make a change for the better so you can create the life you truly want.

You may not realize it, but you have the key to start changing your life right now: your awareness. Most people are unaware that their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs hold an unseen, but powerful energy. This almost magical energy influences our choices, our actions, and ultimately the direction our lives take. By gaining awareness of this inner process, you can dramatically transform your life. The purpose of this book is to share the spiritual tools and insights I have learned through my long career as an intuitive to help speed things along in your journey of healing at a deeper level of consciousness. I know from watching the transformation in thousands of my clients throughout the world that you too can change your life in miraculous ways.

Over the years I have developed what I consider shortcuts to the process of evolving. In this book you will discover how to become more aware of your subtle energies (what’s going on below the level of your conscious mind) and maybe even your intuitive abilities. You will learn how to identify and transform the unconscious negative patterns that have been sabotaging your life. You will come to see the challenges in life such as problems in your relationships in a whole new light – as opportunities to expand your horizon.

My spiritual philosophy as an intuitive practitioner and teacher combines the wisdom of a great many spiritual teachers from the past and present. The premise of my whole career as an intuitive healer is based on a statement of Mahatma Gandhi:

“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world…as in being able to remake ourselves.”

These words meant a lot to me when I first read them many years ago. This wisdom means even more to me now that I have traveled the path of self-awareness to a place where I understand just what he meant. Gandhi knew that to heal the suffering of the world and make it a better place we must first heal and transform ourselves: “Be the change.” If you look at the struggles and hardships in the lives of most people here on earth you may think it’s impossible for things to change, but the truth is that each of us has the opportunity to change our life in some way, shape, or form despite the circumstances that seem to be in the way. It’s a choice.

One of my clients said to me recently, “You make it sound so easy.” When I say that you have a choice to change your life for the better, I am not suggesting that it has been easy for me or will be easy for you to accomplish. By no means do I promise you a quick fix. I know from personal experience and from working with my clients that it takes a dedicated effort to transform oneself. The guidance you receive from the different influences in your life may point you in the right direction, but words of wisdom and practical advice are not enough. Let’s not downplay the amount of time, effort, and courage involved in our personal healing process.

And yet, miracles do happen. In today’s world miracles of healing are becoming a common occurrence. Unyielding faith in oneself combined with great determination play a major role in promoting personal healing and evolution. Once you develop awareness of the unhealthy patterns that get in the way of forming meaningful relationships and living a healthy, happy life you can begin to live your truth.

The purpose of life from my Spiritual perspective is to realize our individual soul lessons and achievements. Some people believe that the events of our lives play out in a way that has no definite plan behind it. From this perspective, life moves along in a haphazard way and people are guided by their circumstances, not by the laws of Divine Love God or Spirit. I realize that the word “God” has been used and misused in philosophical discussions about human existence. Whatever name you want to give to that beautiful vital energy, there is an essence that exists beyond our limited human concept of things. It is the life force behind everything that is created in our Universe. And it is obvious to me from my own personal experience since childhood and from listening to the many stories shared by my clients that there is Spiritual intelligence designating a direction for us – a Divine Plan or Purpose for each and every life.

Developing an awareness of our true selves is the most important thing for us to accomplish in life, because life in the material world is temporary. We only have a limited number of years to enjoy our life on earth and experience ourselves as Spiritual beings in a three-dimensional plane of existence. When we leave our bodies, all of the material things in our lives fall away. It all stays behind. The only thing you do take with you into the afterlife is the consciousness that you have developed during your lifetime - whether that entails positive or negative energies and beliefs. That’s how important awareness is!

Throughout my life I have searched relentlessly for the deeper truth behind things. Because of my highly sensitive nature I was often confused by the intensity of my experiences as a child. I felt the pain of those around me, which made it difficult to be with most people -including my own family. I remember feeling lost and confused about my relationship with my family members. I seemed to have no connection with any of them. Because I didn’t have any conscious awareness about my intuitive abilities and didn’t know how to use them effectively, life was quite excruciating, unless I was out in nature. With my instincts as a healer, I wanted desperately to help others, whether people, animals, or situations in general, but I had no concept at that time about working from the inside of myself out, from my inner guidance, to shift energy and heal others.

While studying for a Nutritional Science degree, I continued to search for an understanding of my inner life experience. This spiritual quest drew me to the Berkeley Psychic Institute/Church of Divine Man in the late 1980s where I studied ancient wisdom teachings and metaphysics and learned practical applications for my intuitive gifts. I also found answers that transformed my life from one of pain and confusion to one of awareness, wonder, and joy.

One of the important concepts I learned at the Berkeley Psychic Institute is that the unlimited creative potential of this world gives us the freedom to create anything we want. Duality gives us the ability to be very flexible with our life choices. We have the opportunity to go in a different direction or even make a new plan when faced with a problem or situation. We have the ability to create more consciousness in our lives whether that comes from positive or negative experiences.

When I was 10 years old, I began to have a dream night after night. It would always start with me standing at the door of a labyrinth. I was instructed by a soft voice to go inside and find my way out of the other side of the maze. Each night in the dream I would get lost, confused, overwhelmed and would not find my way out. I would wake up exhausted and feel very tired for the rest of the day. I had this dream so often that I didn’t want to go to sleep at night. Finally, one night I had a new dream where I was standing next to Jesus. He was showing a film about my life with one of those old film projectors used in early movie theaters. As we watched the film together the storyline passed the age of 10 and kept moving forward into my life. I remember asking Jesus at some point in the film, “Does this mean I am dead?” Jesus laughed and said, “No, it doesn’t.” That is all I remember of the dream, but I never had another one about struggling to find my way out of a maze.

In a profoundly life changing moment, Lewis Bostwick (founder of the Berkeley Psychic Institute/Church of Divine Man,) told me that while being born I hit an energy vortex, got confused, and matched the karma that I shared from a past life with my older brother. That choice landed me in the wrong body and the wrong family. This interpretation made sense out of the symbolism in my dream. Jesus was helping me to reprogram my life with a new plan.
