In this book, the human body's living cells are responsible for the creation of a new person. Follow the different phases of her journey, from conception to the day of her birth!
In "e;Secrets of Life Before Birth: The Adventures of Oy and Spex and the Whomus' Monologues,"e; Dr. Faustin creates scenarios and conversations that lead the reader to the frontiers of imagination and science. This novel covers the beginning of our human experience as well as the quest for optimal health and longevity. "e;Secrets of Life Before Birth"e; follows the conception and birth of Whomus, but it could be anyone's story. The highly specialized, unicellular precursors of a human being can be followed as either the Oy sisters or the Spex siblings, who are living and maturing in their respective habitats, speaking with one another, and pondering their roles in this process. The latter part of this presentation invites the reader to listen to the fetal being on her experience in solitude through this 300-day journey, at different stages of development until the time of her birth to the outer world. This is followed by her first interactions with her inner circle of humans as she begins this new chapter and continues her participation in the continuum of life.

Chapter II

The Selected Oy,
Chosen By Nature.

Introduction

Living together in the Plant, many Oy prototypes enjoy the warmth of this nurturing environment where nutritional supplies abound. The physiologic environment of the Plant undergoes cyclical changes depending on the time of the month due to hormonal fluctuations normally occurring monthly and which regulate the preparation for the release of an Oy sister from the Plant. Oy sisters co-exist and wait for the day when one of them will emerge at the edge of the Plant as the chosen one to be released along with its surrounding nutritional supply in search of one and only one Spex-prototype. In a rare occurrence, more than one Oy (ovum) may be released from the Plant (ovary), leading to a duplication of the following process in which a twin set of Whomus subjects may be conceived around the same time by two distinct Spex prototypes. Also, rarely does it occur that a recently formed Whomus could separate into two independent entities within its first ten to twelve days of their creation, developing as two distinct fetuses although living and developing at the same time in the Garden of Uter. This phenomenon is known to result in another scenario of a twin set of Whomuses who would be identical, unlike the former example which would lead to fraternal Whomuses. In our current scenario, the two haploid cells that the chosen Oy and the chosen Spex have become have been united by the phenomenon of conception which will mark the first day in the life of one single Whomus subject! But before that happens, let’s listen to the chosen Oy in her address to the crowd of sisters and cousins as she prepares to depart from The Plant on the day of ovulation.

The Selected Oy Addressing the Other Sisters Before Leaving the Plant

Note:

Currently, the chosen Oy addresses the group of Oy sisters not yet ready to leave the Plant. Among them, there are other maturing Oy sisters who may leave the Plant later and still be facing the risk of potentially dying or waiting for several months later, not for a guaranteed departure but just for that rare possibility that is decided upon by the forces of nature. Rarely are two Oys prototypes allowed to leave the Plant at the same time or within less than about four weeks from one another. In this solemn moment when ovulation occurs, this departure from the Plant could be compared to a pilot jumping from an airplane at a high altitude expecting a parachute to successfully function. In this scenario depicting the events preceding a possible Whomus’ conception, the meeting with a healthy Spex prototype—the functioning parachute—would prevent the likely demise of Oy outside of the Plant.

We are reminded at this point that Spex does not live in this area and must be transported to the vicinity of the Garden of Uter and released along with millions of its counterparts into the Love Canal from where they will migrate into the Garden of Uter. This limiting step is a major factor determining the likelihood of Oy’s successful departure from the Plant, which can at times be unplanned, unexpected, or unintended.

The Selected Oy (before departing)

Dear sisters!

I love you all. I have enjoyed every single moment I spent with you, and shared the warmth and comfort of the Plant for so long. We have witnessed many of our sisters wait around, grow, blossom, multiply, and restart their short cycles of existence as new cells. Then some of them matured, aged, succumbed, and vanished. Most of us disappear and only a few of us Oys are lucky enough to leave the Plant alive in this adventure, to never return to our place of birth in this generation of humans! But although the lives of most of us end in this place we call our home; we all should be relieved to know that the bulk of the message that each of us carries is identical. So, the process will go on and the continuation of life will occur as long as one of us from this cluster of human precursors with the nearly identical genetic code will mature enough and leave the Plant in search of our counterpart to achieve conception.

I know, I have come a long way before reaching this point. Like all of you, I have lost generations of sisters and cousins who did not have the privilege of leaving the Plant. Indeed, this place where we were born from the process of cellular divisions of our elders has literally become a burial ground to many of our sisters who were never given the opportunity to leave the Plant. We have been waiting from the time of our ancestors, the germ cells, for more than three decades, with the hope of becoming the chosen one to take that leap of faith. In the short excursion that follows our departure from this dwelling, we could be lucky enough to meet our other half, Spex, in one of the two back tunnels leading to the Garden of Uter and fulfill our joint destiny at the time of conception.

Sisters,

My time has come! And now, I am at the gate, ready to leave, waiting for the final signal to depart from the Plant and begin my exploration of the path leading to the Garden of Uter.

As I wait for the signal for my departure, I know that I may encounter many surprises that, I am told, this may just be a lonely, short, and futile trip to my demise within a matter of less than two days. The random nature of my timing may leave no chance that a mature and healthy Spex will be on my path during this trip. Will there be a Spex prototype on my path? If not, I am doomed! If not, I would meet loneliness, accelerated aging, and my unavoidable death.

So, all I wish for is to meet a healthy Spex to unite with. I could meet an X-Spex and become part of a female Whomus, or a Y-Spex and become part of a male Whomus.

My sisters,

If a supply of Spex prototypes happens to be in this neighborhood at this time, my future may be assured as my release from the Plant may coincide with the presence of a massive crowd of hundreds if not thousands or millions of Spex siblings traveling in the tubes from crossing the Garden of Uter. Why can’t we always have the certainty of at least one Spex always present in the fallopian tube, waiting and ready to welcome us and embrace us once we leave the Plant? Why is it necessary to have so many Spexes, so randomly, at one time, when I only need to meet one prototype to join me in my common mission with a Spex partner? For reasons well beyond common understanding, the short life of Spex and Oy in the immediate neighborhood of the Garden of Uter ensures the punctuality of the encounter leading to Whomus’ conception. So, under ideal circumstances, only one colony of nearly identical Spex siblings will be physically present in the Garden of Uter and later meet a specific Oy.

If I am fortunate enough to meet a Spex sibling, I will live a longer life as an equal component of a Whomus person.

I am told that once a Whomus person successfully leaves the Garden of Uter, he or she could live for more than one hundred years, yes, in the outer world!

But Whomus will have to develop, grow, and mature within the walls of the Garden of Uter for up to more than forty weeks before departing through the gate of birth.

This is the purpose of our existence in the Plant. At this time, I have reached the point where I must go to meet my destiny: death or conception. If I die, one of you will wait for twenty-five to thirty days to become the newly chosen Oy, and so on until one of you succeeds in meeting a healthy Spex. If by chance, I become a contributor to conception, the resulting life of Whomus will impose a pause on your development in the Plant until a few weeks after his or her birth to the outer world. So, be patient, be strong. Live every day to honor the common purpose of our lives. Stay healthy as this can be your most precious gift to the life of mankind.

Note:

As the chosen Oy completes her last address to her sisters within the physical space of the Plant, they begin to wonder about the consequences of this important event in the life of the chosen Oy on their existence. They have taken note of the chosen Oy’s solemn speech addressed to them. They have accepted their fate and are ready to fulfill their destiny as carriers of the common genetic message entrusted to them to pass on. This will be possible only if they ever become the one chosen to be elevated to the status of a complete human prototype. They will express their feelings about this time of their lives and the uncertainty about their future.

the Chosen
Oy.

Oy 1

Up to this point, we have experienced many days of changes in our environment in the Plant. The perception of these changes has taken a cyclical mode in which every four weeks or so we have seemed to return to the same experience and so on for many cycles. Each cycle returns with its two seasons, each lasting about one-half of twenty-eight days. We have witnessed many of our sisters age, succumb, and disappear, many have come anew from cell divisions of their parents just like us to increase our population in the Plant. All of us confined in this space experience the cyclical changes that we have learned to be used to.

Indeed, this has been my observation too! But after all, living comfortably until our last day is the wish, we should all have. Regardless of our longevity, what matters the most is our...
