Are you prone to over-checking? Do you annoy your family and friends by imagining the worst all the time? Does anxiety affect everything you do, from getting through the day to being able to make decisions, no matter how small? Has it affected or even destroyed friendships and relationships? Or maybe you know or live with someone with these issues, and feel unable to help them?
Helena Tarrant gets it. She also understands why you may have struggled with text-heavy anxiety guides in the past. This book can help you to start a new fulfilling life, or help you provide invaluable support to someone you care about. The author has recovered from lifelong debilitating obsessive compulsive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. This book shares the 75 tried and tested techniques she used to do it, based largely but not entirely on the methods and concepts behind cognitive behavioural therapy.
Written in accessible language, conveniently segmented and illustrated with over 100 original cartoons, the techniques are described clearly and concisely. Beating OCD and Anxiety knows you don't want to read pages of complex theory on a quest for the help you need.
If you have an anxious friend, this is your road map of how to help them. If you suffer from anxiety yourself and have found that traditional text-based guides haven't helped, Helena will show you how to get your life back.
Helena was an art consultant before working in part-time business roles while bringing up her son. She has degrees in History of Art/English, and Graphic Design. She has practised CBT techniques for thirty years as a patient, initially attending a 1:1 course in Isaac Marks' department at the Institute of Psychiatry. She has since updated her techniques via three local courses. She manages GAD and OCD herself, very successfully. Her cartoons have appeared in workshops for the NHS and the Business Psychology Company, and in company magazines. They appear regularly in the weekly bellringing magazine, The Ringing World. Most recently, she has finished illustrating a children's book Nicolas and the Six Bells by David Ackerman, published by Gabriel Books.
