We all know that Belgium has some of the best cooking in the world but what do the Belgians enjoy eating, when they are at home, among family and friends?
A delicious collection of home-cooking from Belgium, based on traditional recipes using the best ingredients. Simple dishes handed down through generations, the familiar flavours that accompany Belgian family life. Well-known classics such as chicons au gratin, deep-fried shrimp croquettes and waffles are all included but there are detours into regional terrines, tarts and pies, plus numerous shop-bought specialities such as Ardenne Ham, Speculoos Biscuits, Sirop de Liege and Herve Cheese. Additionally of course, there is chocolate and beer! With his characteristic wit, charm and irreverence, Eric Boschman provides a fascinating insight into the tastes and preferences, the everyday eating habits of the citizens of Belgium. With happy excursions into the weird and wonderful, this volume explores the Belgian love affair with food and its cultural and social significance. Focusing on the food and drink of Brussels and the five provinces of Wallonia, it is perhaps only A Slice of Belgium - but what a terrific slice it is!

Eric Boschman is well known in Belgium as a wine expert and writer on gastronomy; he regularly appears on radio and television and has published numerous articles in the press. His taste for authentic food and drink was formed in childhood, as the son (and grandson) of restaurateurs in the province of Hainaut, and was further shaped by a deep admiration and nostalgia for the cooking of his grandmother's generation. Having worked in and then owned a series of restaurants, he founded La Food & Wine Academy (FAWA) in 2003. He is the author of a number of books on food and wine, including Vignobles de Belgique (Vineyards of Belgium, Racine, 2009). Le Gout des Belges, which first appeared in 2006, was published in a revised edition in 2012. Natalie Derny combines her passion for writing about gastronomy with her life as an avid equestrian and her profession as a gynaecologist. Formerly a contributing editor of the gastronomic encyclopaedia Le Monde a Table, she also has a website alter ego that operates as a not-so-secret undercover reviewer called Agent 53.
