The Universe

The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad

girls live...

(Unknown)

Santa is this enchanting colourful character who flies around the world in one night and delivers toys to every child at Christmas time, or so the fable goes.

It’s this story of being able to fly around the world in one night though that is of interest to us, sort of makes the world seem like this minute place. Fact is, it is small and this realisation was driven home in depth just the other day of how diminutive it is.

We live in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa. While out in the ocean enjoying our favourite passion, which is surfing, a fellow surfer who hailed all the way from New Zealand, on the other side of the world, paddled over for a chat while waiting for a wave.

He spent the next ten minutes describing in detail how he’d travelled around Africa, chasing the African coastline in search of the perfect wave.

He couldn’t prevent himself from repeatedly explaining how he felt about Africa: the pulse, the animals, Black Africa, poverty, appalling corruption, the vast plains, the heat, the arid conditions, so few who had so much, so many who would never have anything because they couldn’t care less to help themselves, rampant crime, limited resources, a harsh reality where life had little value and yet to him, the African coastline was something so incredibly exquisite to behold, he couldn’t believe it was all part of the same country, even the same continent.

We thought about what he’d said and replied that it must have been a difficult transition to make coming from New Zealand where everything was disciplined, clean and orderly, neat and tidy, the scenery breathtakingly beautiful with clean, mountain air and a safe protected environment.

His reply was instant. He said it had nothing to do with having to make any type of transition. As far as he was concerned, we are all one world. We all belong. No matter where we come from or how we live, we all walk on Mother Earth.

Long walk to freedom…

He said, Its just sand…you know…just sand…doesn’t

matter where you are…its just the same old sand!

He’s so right. Whether we’re walking on a continent in the Southern Hemisphere or on a continent over in the Northern Hemisphere we’re still walking on sand…essentially still walking on Mother Earth.

And so it is with life. We’re all humans existing in one world. Yes, we are all vastly different with diverse cultures and outlooks on life but fundamentally we all eat, sleep and survive on this amazing God given planet called Earth.

The Sages say human life is like a river. It begins as a small

stream and steadily matures, joins other streams (partners/ friends/marriage), unites, meanders, takes many turns, has many adventures, faces challenges, enjoys wonderful discoveries and glorious moments, eventually runs into the ocean with all the other streams and finally settles.

Once it begins, it can never return. It has to travel its designated distance.

It doesn’t matter if we’re English, Russian, Chinese, European, Indian, Hispanic, African or American, for this is just our exterior appearance; on the inside we all consist of the same divine energy.

It’s no different with the sand we walk on. No matter where we are in the world, it’s all just sand and we’re all heading for the same big ocean.

Yet we still choose to fight over it...!

The Big Question:

How did we get here…?  From where did we originate…? Where are we going…? And the big question…what happens once we get there…?

It’s a serious subject but we’ll have a bit of fun with it so we’re going to equate the world to a huge ship. It has a port side (left or Southern Hemisphere) and a starboard side (right or Northern Hemisphere). In the middle is the superstructure (man) and at the top is the bridge where the Captain (God) plots the course.

If we look at the left and right sides of the ship and draw a line between them, we have a base line. If we then draw a line from each extreme left and right end, up to the Captain on the bridge, we have a triangle.

At the top of the triangle is the figurehead; at the bottom extreme left is a leg and opposite on the bottom extreme right of the triangle is the other leg.

These two legs represent the dualism or the yin and yang of the triangle, which in this case symbolise the Northern and Southern hemispheres of Mother Earth.

God

Nth. Hemisphere                                      Sth. Hemisphere

This is our world, Planet Earth. It’s a Triangle of Perfect Balance. We have the North and South hemispheres of Planet Earth and we have God the Creator at the top, in the centre pivot.

When we look at a triangle it always represents Perfect Balance because no matter which way it lays, it’ll always lie on a base with the middle pivot point of the triangle at the top.

If we use this same analogy for determining Life, the triangle below represents a typical yin and yang conflict of how we strive for ‘Perfect Balance’ in our lives.

Life

Yin                         Yang

Throughout life we continually strive to balance this yin and yang of life from the day we are born until we pass on and leave this earth plane.

Its all part of our life challenge. If we understand this though and accept that these vital energy forces exist, then we can use them to our advantage.

The Spiritual Law of Perfect Balance:

Without us even realising it this dualism affects everything on earth and therefore forms the basis of the Spiritual Law of Perfect Balance.

For example, we have: day and night; male and female; black and white; good and evil; hot and cold; positive and negative; and so on.

For mankind, opposites often exist for the purpose of communication. Without heat how would we define cold? Remove one element and the other automatically becomes an empty, lifeless word with no meaning.

They are simply a human fabrication to describe how we feel. It’s like the concept of time, which in reality also doesn’t exist. Every day is just another day, merely one more earth revolution on its perfect axis.

Yin & Yang

We only measure time to organise our lives, like getting to work on time. Our Universe works unconditionally. It’s not dependant on issues like time or any other human production or invention.

The following is an old story that very simply explains this yin and yang concept.

At a certain college, there was a professor with a reputation for being tough on those who believed in God. At the first class every term, he'd ask if anyone was a believer and then proceed to degrade them and mock their faith.

One semester, he put this question to the class, “Who can answer, did God make everything?”

A student raised his hand and replied, “Yes sir, he did!”

The professor responded, “If God made everything, then he made evil.”

The student didn't have a response and the professor was happy to have once again proved that all faith is a myth.

Then another student raised his hand and asked, “May I ask you something, sir?”

“Yes you may.” The professor responded.

The student stood up and said, “Sir, is there such a thing as cold?”

“Of course there is. What kind of question is that? Haven't you ever felt cold?” The professor snapped back.

The young man replied, “Actually sir, cold doesn't exist. What we consider to be cold is really an absence of heat. Absolute zero is when there is absolutely no heat. Cold does not really exist. We only created the term to describe how we feel when there is no heat.”

The student continued, “Sir, is there such a thing as dark?”

Once again the professor responded, “Of course there is.”

To which the student...
