This book reports the latest work on green technologies in palm oil milling processes, including new processes and various optimisation techniques. It covers the latest developments on palm oil milling process with new technologies, alternative solvent design, residual oil recovery, palm oil mill effluent treatment, palm biomass supply chain, as well as ecoindustrial park concept. The book is intended for industrial practitioners and academics interested in green technologies for palm oil milling processes.

Prof Ir Dr Dominic C. Y. Foo is a Professor of Process Design and Integration at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, and is the Founding Director for the Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, a Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM), past chairman of the Chemical Engineering Technical Division of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), as well as the Vice President for the Asia Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE). Professor Foo has published four books, more than 130 journal papers and made more than 190 conference presentations, including over 30 keynote/plenary speeches. He served on international scientific committees for various major conferences (CHISA/PRES, FOCAPD, ESCAPE, PSE, etc.). Professor Foo is the Editor-in-Chief of Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability (Springer), Subject Editor for Process Safety & Environmental Protection (Transactions of IChemE Part B; Elsevier), editorial board members for Water Conservation Science and Engineering (Springer) and Chemical Engineering Transactions (Italian Association of Chemical Engineering). He is the winner of the Innovator of the Year Award 2009 of IChemE, Young Engineer Award 2010 of IEM, Outstanding Young Malaysian Award 2012 of Junior Chamber International (JCI), as well as the SCEJ (Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan) Award for Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer 2013, Vice-Chancellor’s Achievement Award 2014 (University of Nottingham) and Top Research Scientist Malaysia 2016 (Academy of Science Malaysia). Mustafa Kamal Abdul Aziz was the Founding Director of the Centre of Lipid Engineering and Applied Research (CLEAR), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Upon his retirement from UTM, he was appointed as Honourary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. Mustafa works closely with industrial partners and government agencies, e.g. Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and Board (MPOB) on various palm oil-based research projects, which include bioenergy, biofuels, biomaterial processing and process plant economics. He holds the patent for a green printing ink from palm olein for paper and packaging. In addition, he is a Visiting Professor at University Malaysia Pahang and the University of Tokyo Agricultural & Technology, Japan. He is also an active committee member for various international and national conferences.
