Manuel works as deputy director at the division of Energy Systems Analysis at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. His work focuses on the development of energy models, which are applied to inform decision making on energy investment strategies and supportive policies.
Manuel's research work focuses on (1) the role of smart grids, especially for developing countries, (2) the climate, land-use, energy and water nexus, and on (3) the implications of increasing shares of variable renewable energy on the composition of future energy systems. In particular, Manuel contributes to the development of the Open Source Energy Modelling System, OSeMOSYS. Further, he is strongly engaged in the coordination of the FP7 funded INSIGHT_E project, a think tank to advise the European Commission on energy issues.
