Biomedical Innovations to Combat COVID-19
Academic Press Inc (Verlag)
978-0-323-90248-9 (ISBN)
This book is split into four sections: introduction, presenting basic virologic and epidemiological aspects of COVID-19; vaccines against COVID-19, discussing their different types and applications used to develop them; diagnostic approaches for SARS-CoV-2, encompassing advanced sensing and microfluidic-based biosensors; and drug development and delivery, where antivirals based on nanomaterials or drugs are presented.
It is a valuable source for virologists, biotechnologists, and members of biomedical field interested in learning more about how novel technologies can be applied to fasten the eradication of the COVID-19 and similar pandemics.
Sergio Rosales-Mendoza, PhD, is Professor of Biotechnology with wide experience in vaccine design and genetic engineering. He has published over 120 articles in peer reviewed journals, edited one book, and written two books. His research topics include design of chimeric antigens, mucosal vaccines, plant-made vaccines, and algae-made vaccines. Mauricio Comas-García, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Biology with more than 12 years of experience studying virus assembly, RNA packaging in single-stranded RNA viruses, and rational design of virus-like-particles. He has published 13 articles in peer reviewed journals and his work has been cited 537 times. His research topics include assembly of RNA viruses, RNA packaging, structural virology, and design of complex virus-like-particle systems for their application in biotechnology. Omar González-Ortega, PhD, is Professor at the Bioprocesses Engineering program holding a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering. His research experience includes bio-separations, nanobiotechnology, and mathematical modeling of chemical and biochemical processes. He has published 35 articles in peer reviewed journals and written one book.
