A Well Mind provides a holistic approach to mental wellness by showing how the processes of looking after your body can complement those of looking after your mind. Recent research has shown that through improving our eating, sleeping, and exercise habits, we can experience physical health benefits which lead to feeling better in our mind. In this guide, these processes are presented and explained clearly, ensuring they are accessible to anyone who wishes to improve their overall wellbeing.
Author Lisa Parkinson Roberts has struggled with bipolar disorder for most of her life. Having found successful methods for coping, she aims to share these tools and her academic expertise with others. The result is a comprehensive guide to improving your wellbeing by eating well and maintaining healthy routines. Nutrition, sleep, stress management and exercise are investigated as tools to achieve optimal mental health and to help you to regain control of how you feel.
Amidst a plethora of books on physical wellbeing and fitness, A Well Mind is a key step in the emergence of books with a primary focus on achieving mental wellness. We all want to feel better and thrive, rather than merely survive. However, our busy modern lives and altered food supply makes this difficult to achieve. Shaped by personal experience, this is the essential guide to feeling the best that you can in your mind.
Lisa Parkinson Roberts (PhD) has worked in the field of health and nutrition for over a decade. She holds an honours degree in exercise and sports science and a PhD in Nutrition Science. She was awarded an Australian postgraduate award scholarship to complete her doctorate and has published 10 peer reviewed journal articles, including one book chapter. Lisa has presented her research at both local and international nutrition conferences, and has coordinated and taught a university nutrition course. In her academic career, Lisa’s research focused on nutrition, inflammation and mood disorders. She has since gone on to gain much experience translating nutrition and health research for the general public, and run a personal training studio in Melbourne, Australia. Lisa found that nutrition advice tends to be overly complex, controversial, and often misunderstood, and so made it her aim to bring a comprehensive overview to the public, whose teachings are understandable and whose tools are easily implemented. Having suffered mental illness for most of her life, Lisa now enjoys a different state of mind and is passionate about helping others to do the same.
