A new NVQ in Clinical Laboratory Support is being launched to offer the first structured education and training to laboratory assistants in the pathology environment, leading to a formal qualification. The Manual of Clinical Laboratory Support will encourage laboratory assistants to gather the appropriate evidence to gain their qualification. This book will appeal to candidates for the new NVQ and will be of benefit to their colleagues, not yet enrolled on the NVQ programme but in need of a book to relate key occupational standards and laboratory procedures. As this book will be the first to accompany the qualification, it will be attractive to internal verifiers and assessors, to whom it will offer invaluable guidance. The book will offer mainly generic advice on gaining evidence to demonstrate competence but will offer more discipline objective advice for each of the specialisms within clinical laboratory science: Histopathology; Clinical Chemistry; Microbiology; Haematology; Blood Transfusion, and Immunology.
