Professor MH Botha is Head of the Gynaecology Oncology Unit at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Academic Hospital. He started his career in a mission hospital after which he specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology. Dr Botha did further training in the field of gynaecological oncology in the UK and is a registered gyneacological oncologist. He has a research interest in fertility preservation in cancer survivors and successfully completed his PhD in 2010 in this field. Dr T Matsaseng is the Head of the Reproductive Medicine Unit at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Academic Hospital and is a registered reproductive medicine specialist. He recently submitted his PhD thesis entitled Cost Effective IVF Strategies in Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Professor TF Kruger was Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa from 2003 until 2010 and has been head of the Reproductive Biology Unit at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Academic Hospital since 1984. He and his team were responsible for South Africa's first test tube baby born in 1984, which opened a new era and opportunities for infertility work in Africa. Professor Kruger is world renowned for his - and his team's work on male infertility. In 1999 and again in 2010 the WHO in Geneva accepted Tygerberg's strict criteria on sperm morphology as the international standard to be used in andrology and IVF laboratories.
