"Overall, this is a very readable book that will be useful toboth early-career and experienced clinical psychologists who wantto develop strategies for their clinical work and understand theservice-user position whilst benefitting from up-to-date researchand developments in the eating disorder field." (TheBritish Psychological Society, 1 August 2013)

Greta Noordenbos has written a guidebook for the journey ofrecovery from eating disorder. The road to recovery is often long, arduous, bewildering and frightening. Patients and theirfamilies and friends would be well advised to carry and consultthis book along the way. Like its author, the book is warmand hopeful in tone whilst being knowledgeable and realistic andabove all trustworthy.--Professor Bob Palmer, University ofLeicester, UK

Overall I believe this is a wonderful book for both sufferersand their families and it will be very helpful for beating theeating disorder.--Johann Vanderlin, UniversityPsychiatric Center KULeuven, Belgium

Rather than promoting a particular treatment approach, this booktakes us on a journey through stages of an eating disorder, usingexperiences and insights from those who have successfully emergedfrom the darkness of their disorder. An excellent resource forthose perplexed by eating disorders: professionals, patients andloved ones.--Anthea Fursland, Principal ClinicalPsychologist, Eating Disorders Programme, Centre for ClinicalInterventions (CCI), Australia

This is a remarkable and very valuable book. In the format ofan extensive piece of qualitative research, based on manyinterviews with people with a history of an eating disorder, theauthor has created an immensely readable account of the genesis, progress and recovery from it. This account is supported by astrongly referenced basis in the research literature. Furthermorethe author does not simply describe the process of the eatingbehaviour, but explores the growth of the person that was missingto begin with and now will be necessary for full recovery. Sheinvestigates developing self-esteem, expressing emotions, developing social relationships, providing the template for fullrecovery, not simply the return to more normal eating patterns. This book is entirely suitable for clients who will certainlyrecognise themselves in its pages, but is also valuable forclinicians for whom this is as clear an account as you could hopefor, of the factors involved in an eating disorder.--JuliaBuckroyd, Emeritus Professor of Counselling, University ofHertfordshire
