How to write widgets for special applications - usually a complex task. This volume outlines the process from conception to the finished component. It is designed for programmers with experience in C++ programming, object-oriented programming, Motif and the Xt intrinsics.
The Motif graphical user interface system includes a comprehensive set of components-widgets and gadgets-that enable programmers to easily create very sophisticated, aesthetically pleasing user interface applications. Although several currently available books describe how to program with the OSF/Motif widgets, none describe how programmers can write their own widgets for special applications-up until now a very complex task usually left to programming geniuses. Designed for programmers with experience in C++ programming, object-oriented programming, Motif, and the Xt Intrinsics, this volume outlines, step-by-step-from conception to the finished component-how to write new widgets and gadgets. Using detailed code explanations and many screen displays, shows how to create two new widgets (a knob widget and a matrix widget) and an indicator gadget. Explains how to connect each new component to an existing superclass, so that the component inherits the resources belonging to the superclass. Includes a program that demonstrates the use of these new components.
