An explanation of the basic tenets of Buddhism, showing how they are relevant to everyday Western life. Providing explanations of the teachings which give the insight and inspiration to attain an enlightened life. Titmuss shows how Buddhist teachings are relevant to the problems of Western society.
Buddhism is the fastest growing religion in the West yet it is hard to find a book which gives explanations of the teachings suitable for someone who knows little about the subject. Light on Enlightenment is free of jargon but remains as true as possible to the original teachings, giving readers the insight and inspiration to attain an en-lightened life. Intended for anyone who has ever stopped to think about what it means to be in this world, this book sets out to fill the moral and spiritual vacuum in Western society. Christopher Titmuss shows how Buddhist teachings are totally relevant to the problems of Western society, and a valuable influence on science, psychotherapy, green issues, lifestyle, peace, justice and community building.

Christopher Titmuss is the co-founder of one of the largest and most respected retreat centres in the UK, from where he travels all over the world to teach Awakening and Insight Meditation retreats. From 1962 to 1967 he worked as a reporter and photojournalist in London, Turkey, Thailand, Laos and Australia - and then spent six years as a Buddhist monk in Thailand and India. For the last twenty years he has been teaching the Dharma. He is an active supporter of global responsibility and is a founder member of the twelve-strong international board of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. In 1986 and 1992 he stood for Parliament for the Green Party.
