This book provides readers a holistic and pragmatic approach towards supply management in China. It elaborates on how supply management should integrate the optimum level, and a combination of quality, cost and delivery. In addition to serving as a guide on how to address cultural barriers, apply supply tools and concepts, it also illustrates the best practices in supply management in China. It draws from a large number of best practices of companies from automotive to railway, to convince other functional departments and higher management that supply management plays the most fundamental role in any organization due to the high number of value adding activities which are coming from suppliers. These practices have been derived by a multi-methodical approach including interviews with supply management leaders from industry and experts in academia, making it as unique and a suitable a guide for practitioners and academics.

Dr. Marc Helmold is a supply management professional specialized in sourcing and supply Management in China, Japan and Asia. From 2013 to 2016 he was the General Manager and Head of Global Sourcing China, Japan and Asia of Bombardier in the International Procurement Organization (IPO) in China, Shanghai. Prior to this position he worked in Bombardier as the Procurement Head and Member of the Site Management Team in the largest site in Berlin, Hennigsdorf. Before his career in Bombardier he worked in several procurement management functions in automotive companies like Ford, Mazda or Porsche. Dr. Helmold is visiting lecturer at the Gloucestershire University and the FOM University in Berlin. In this function he supervises doctoral students and joins conferences on supply Management and purchasing. He has published many peer read articles and books in the areas of supply management, supplier relationship management and distribution management.

Dr. Brian Terry led in the 1980s and 1990s a world renowned research group in Materials production and Processing at Imperial College London. During this time he supervised 16 students towards successful PhDs and six postdoctoral fellows. This research was based on substantial international industrial funding, UK and European Union government research council funding. Dr. Terry has published over 90-refereed academic articles and two textbooks in this field. He has acted as plenary speaker and international conference chair in the UK, Japan, USA, Chile, Australia and Germany. Dr. Terry was then appointed as the founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing Management and Professor of Manufacturing Management at the University of Sunderland. The Centre was established as a result of substantial funding by the UK Government, European Union and inward investing companies including Nissan and Samsung. Additional funding was obtained for a large supplier development research and consulting program throughout the high volume manufacturing SME sector of the UK. After a subsequent period of 15 years in international management consultancy Dr. Terry has recently returned to academic research and teaching in the fields of commercial and industrial application of strategy, operations, supply chain and project management.
