This book is primarily an effort at resolving the persistent problem of underperformance of successive federal governments of Nigeria in public service delivery. This is widely blamed on the lack of public accountability in governance, which breeds the widespread corruption and allied unethical tendencies that condemn the citizenry to poverty. The author argues that the solution lies in government budgetary practice and proceeds to show how public budgeting will serve to establish public accountability in governance. This unfolds through an administrative-performance-auditing-procedure for asserting effective-control of elected officials over bureaucrats to: align government-vision with the social-aspirations of the citizenry; breed efficient and effective actualization of the thus-aligned government-vision; and enhance the aptitude of public officials. Therefore, this book will serve as an invaluable source of reference for any government that is grappling with the problems of corruption and accountability in governance.
