This proceedings volume gathers selected, blinded peer-reviewed contributions presented at the XXIX International Joint Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IJCIEOM), held in Lisbon, Portugal, from June 28th to 30th, 2023.

This volume focuses especially on the applications of Industrial Engineering and Operations Management for research and practice. It includes relevant information for academics since most of the chapters focus on real-world case studies and systematic reviews. It also provides valuable insights for professionals in the industrial sector by presenting solutions to complex industrial challenges.

The 2023 iteration of the IJCIEOM conference had the theme "Developing resilience in Industrial Engineering and Operations Management" and aimed to analyze the resilience of supply chains in the post-COVID-19 era. The works published in this volume focus on how Digital Transformation (DX) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have made themanufacturing and service industry more resistant to VUCA elements (i.e., volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous). Regarding DX and AI, the research specifically focused on supply chain management, project management, and Industry 4.0. Other studies explore how industrial engineering incorporated innovative and technological concepts into service and product operations. Overall, this volume provides a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners alike as it presents numerous relevant contributions in identifying new challenges and opportunities for industrial engineering and operations management.

This conference was sponsored by renowned international industry engineering associations, particularly the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM), the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE), and the Asociación para el Desarrollo de la Ingeniería de Organización (ADINGOR).

lt;b>João Carlos Gonçalves dos Reis holds the position of Assistant Professor of Services Management, Operations Management, and Logistics at Lusófona University in Lisbon, Portugal. His research focus lies in the domains of Service Science, Industrial Engineering, and Operations Management. Dr. Reis serves as a research fellow at two esteemed institutions. He is affiliated with the RCM2+ Research Centre for Asset Management and Systems Engineering at Lusófona University, where he collaborates with prominent researchers. Additionally, he holds a research fellowship at the Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness, and Public Policy (GOVCOPP).

Francisco Gaudencio Mendonça Freires was born in Fortaleza (state of Ceará - Brazil) in 1974. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará (1996), a Master's degree in production engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2000), and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (2007). He has experience in Production Engineering with an emphasis on Business Logistics and Operations Management, working mainly on the following topics: Supply Chain Management, reverse logistics, sustainable SCM, and cost management. He was a professor at the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley (UNIVASF) until 2011. He researched the issue of logistics and supply chain management of biofuels and fruit growing in the north-eastern semi-arid region of Brazil. He has also developed research in the advance of the intermodal logistics of the São Francisco River. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) Polytechnic School. He also works in the Graduate Program in Industrial Engineering (PEI) at UFBA, currently researching renewable energy alternatives from the supply chain management perspective.

Milton Vieira Junior holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Engineering School of São Carlos - USP (1987) and a Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution. Nowadays, his position is of Assistant Professor at Mackenzie Prebiterian University, in São Paulo, Brazil, and Associate Researcher at ITEGAM - Galileo Technological Institute of Amazônia, Manaus, Brazil. His research focus lies on Production Management, Competitiveness, and Industry 4.0. Dr. Vieira was the President of ABEPRO - Brazilian Association of Industrial Engineering during the terms 2014/2015 and 2016/2017.
