This open access book presents an alternative to capitalism and state socialism through the modelling of a post-market and post-state utopia based on an upscaling of the commons. Unlike other critiques of capitalism, the authors open up a new space to think about utopia and transformation that considers human possibility, social action, and societal change. The need for the left to explore non-capitalist modes of production, the inability of green or socialist market economies to produce social and ecological change, and the need to look beyond traditional ideas of reform and revolution are all discussed in relation to utopia and the creation of a commonist society.
This book aims to develop a theory of transformation that encompasses both a new form of production and a new societal logic. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in the political economy and Marxist economics.
