Emotional intelligence - the ability to understand and manage emotions within yourself and others - often plays a greater role than IQ in determining success. And perhaps there is no place where this claim is truer than in business, where emotions play an outsized role in influencing who rises and who falls, who wins and who loses.
Emotional intelligence--the ability to understand and manage emotions within yourself and others--often plays a greater role than “IQ” in determining success. And perhaps there is no place where this claim is truer than in business, where emotions play an outsized role in influencing who rises and who falls, who wins and who loses.

In a surprisingly high percentage of business negotiations, transactions and interactions, it is emotions--especially negative or irrational ones, and not reason and rationality--that drive the agenda and outcomes.

Richard M. Contino is an internationally recognised entrepreneur, attorney, businessman, and negotiator. He has undertaken hundreds of high-stakes business, financial and legal negotiations--aiding clients, companies, and partners in navigating complex power dynamics to forge multi-million dollar agreements and cross a business finish line for companies such as De Lage Landen Financial Services, Inc., the 4th largest equipment finance company in the US, a subsidiary of Rabobank, a Dutch multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands and one of the 30 largest financial institutions in the world, and Cisco System Capital, Inc., a subsidiary of Cisco Systems, Inc, a multinational technology conglomerate headquartered in San Jose, California. He is a Managing Director of First Lease Advisors, an equipment leasing and financing consulting firm, a Managing Director of Fairfield Capital Group, LLC, an equipment lease syndication firm and the Managing Partner of Contino + Partners, a law firm whose practice is limited to equipment leasing and financing. He has an LL.M. (Corporate Law) from the New York University Graduate School of Law, a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law and a Bachelor of Aeronautical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is a member of the Bar of the State of New York and has been admitted to the Bars in State of Maryland and District of Columbia. Richard Contino is also a member of the American and New York State Bar Associations, and is listed in Who's Who of American Law, Who's Who of Emerging Leaders, Who's Who in the World, and The International Who's Who of Contemporary Achievement.
