This book opens with a brief introduction to renewable energy and the advantages of solar energy systems, an overview of concentrated solar power (CSP) system technologies and modeling, and the application of artificial neural network (ANN) technologies in various solar field systems. Later chapters cover data and operation methods of central tower receiver power plants (CTRPP), important models of ANN techniques used in solar energy fields, accurate methods for modeling CTRPP, the economics of solar energy systems, the CSP impacts on the penetration level of photovoltaic (PV) systems, and a look at the reliability of systems using case studies on PV systems and hybrid PV and CSP systems.

  • Provides an introduction to renewable energy and the advantages of solar energy systems
  • Outlines methods for modeling central tower receiver power plants
  • Includes case studies on photovoltaic (PV) and hybrid PV and concentrated solar power systems

Ibrahim Moukhtar received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Aswan University, Egypt. He joined the Electrical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Energy Engineering at Aswan University as a Demonstrator and an Assistant Lecturer in August 2008 and 2014, respectively. He was an Invited Researcher at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT), from 2016 to 2018. Currently, he is a Lecturer in Electrical Engineering Department at Aswan University. His research interests include electrical power systems, digital protection, and renewable energy.

Adel Z. El Dein received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees Electrical Engineering from Aswan University, and the Ph.D. degree in ElectricalEengineering from Kazan State Technical University, Kazan, Russia. Since 2005, he has been a staff member with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Energy Engineering, Aswan University, where he is currently a Professor of High Voltage Engineering and the Dean of Faculty of Energy Engineering. His fields of interest include high voltage engineering phenomena, calculation of electric and magnetic fields and their effects, comparison of numerical techniques in electromagnetics, design of microstrip antennas and filters, Electrothermal modeling of the cable's termination and joints, lightning phenomena, and the calculation of specific absorption rate (SAR) in the human body.
Adel A. Elbaset received his B.S., M.Sc., and Ph.D. from Faculty of Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Minia University, Egypt. Dr. Adel is currently an Associate Professor in Power Electronics in the Faculty of Engineering, Minia University, where he has been a faculty member since 1996 and is Executive Manager of the Advanced La for Electric Power Systems. His research interests are in the areas of renewable energy sources, power electronics, power system protection and control, power quality and harmonics, neural network, and fuzzy systems. Dr. Elbaset is the author of six previous books.

Yasunori Mitani received B.Sc., M.Sc., and D.Eng. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Osaka University, Japan. He was a visiting research associate at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1994 to 1995, and is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT), Japan, where he also serves as the Head of Environmental Management Center of KIT and Vice Dean of the KIT Graduate School of Engineering.
