This work suggests strategies for managers in industry and finance to aid them in implementing good environmental practice guidelines which also result in benefits for the company. It draws on lessons from the US, placing them in the context of European environmental issues.

Contributions are provided from leading industrialists, politicians, policy makers and financial and legal experts on the critical environmental issues facing industry and government in Europe over the next decade. It suggests strategies for managers in industry and finance to implement good practice guidelines resulting in benefits for the company. Lessons are drawn from the US and there are a number of US contributors from industry and the environmental sector. The issues addressed include: subsidiarity and deregulation; eco-taxes and economic instruments; cost/benefit analyses of environmental legislation; the role of the new European Environmental Agency, based in Copenhagen; the greening of Central and Eastern Europe; green financial reporting; avoiding environmental pitfalls in mergers and acquisitions and other corporate activity; competition within the global economy under the GATT agreement.
