This book looks at The Motor Insurers' Bureau which has, over the years, increased in importance in its role as provider of compensation for those injured in road traffic accidents for whom redress is not otherwise available. The chief functions of the Bureau relate to the classic cases of the "hit and run" driver and the uninsured driver. The range of circumstances for which the Bureau provides has increased as the risks compulsorily insurable have widened. In keeping with that trend, the Bureau now covers damage to property which became compulsorily insurable from 31 December 1988. This booklet is intended as an immediate and straightforward outline of the scope and workings of the Bureau.
