The unique focus of this book is its dual focus on management and supervision. The book offers a critical analysis of the contemporary debates related to issues and the challenges peculiar to social work management and supervision of social workers. Social welfare policy changes in South Africa in the past two decades, have had a radical impact on social work and affected all involved in social development. This has resulted in a requirement for increased accountability, improved quality and efficiency of service delivery.
The book critically addresses both the management and supervision of social workers within a social development paradigm. It draws on South African and African practice examples as well as relevant research, but may also apply to other contexts and social service professions. Comprehensive, detailed, sound theoretical and conceptual frameworks are all essential in management and supervision in social work, as reflected in this exciting new book.
