This resource is for anyone responsible for facilitating a training event with the aim of improving social and working relationships through communication skills. The first activity in the volume is for the training of managers, supervisors and others in facilitation skills. Subsequent activities are grouped under four headings: begginings and endings - icebreakers, course review and course closure activities; perceptions - to identify and address issues which stem from assumptions and presumptions about self, people and groups; communicating - to enhance and develop interpersonal skills, verbal and non-verbal; and empowerment - to identify and practice ideas and techniques which enable people to take more responsibility and authority over their own actions. This is a completely updated and expanded new edition which recognizes that managers, supervisors, team leaders and others are now increasingly responsible for training and developing their staff. To this end, each of the activities includes optional additional guidance, for the non-trainer, in the form of context and background information and further advice on processing.
The authors alert the facilitator to possible pitfalls and suggest ways of overcoming them. All of the reproducible material in the manual, including briefing sheets and handouts, is supplied in the form of photocopy masters, as well as on computer disk. The mix of printed and electronic media makes the manual extremely easy to work through whilst enabling you to edit and customize your material in a way that was never before possible.
