Markets, Ethics, and Business Ethics provides an introductory discussion on basic, challenging concepts of business ethics: markets, property rights, law, and corporations.This title presents a balance of institutional perspectives and the concrete decisions people make within those institutions. The text studies the rules and incentives of a business system as well as the ethical decisions that people confront within their roles as consumers, investors, managers, owners, employees, and citizens.

 

Steven Scalet received his Ph.D in philosophy and M.A. in Economics at the University of Arizona. He taught at Binghamton University (SUNY) for a decade, where he directed the Program in Philosophy, Politics, and Law and was an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Economics. Professor Scalet is the recipient of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He taught a popular course called “Markets, Ethics, and Law” that enrolled thousands of students and included many discussions related to the topics of this book  He has frequently lectured on topics of corporate responsibility and the nature of democracy as a Speaker for the New York Council for the Humanities. Professor Scalet has published many articles in applied ethics and political philosophy, and is currently an Associate Professor of philosophy and Director of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Baltimore (USM). He lives in the Baltimore area with his wife Debby and daughter Sophia.
