Microbial Products: Applications and Translational Trends offers complete coverage of the production of microbial products, including biopolymers, biofuels, bioactive compounds, and their applications in fields such as bioremediation, agriculture, medicine, and other industrial settings. This book focuses on multiple processes including upstream procedures and downstream processing, and the tools required for their production. Lab-scale development processes may not be as efficient when aiming for large-scale industrial production, so it is necessary to utilize in silico modeling tools for bioprocess design to ensure success at translational levels. Therefore, this book presents in silico and mathematical simulations and approaches used for such applications. Further, it examines microbial products produced from bacteria, fungi, and algae. These major microbial categories have the capacity to produce various, diverse secondary metabolites, bioactive compounds, enzymes, biopolymers, biofuels, probiotics, and more. The bioproducts examined in the book are of great social, medical, and agricultural benefit, and include examples of biodegradable polymers, biofuels, biofertilizers, and drug delivery agents.

Presents approaches and tools that aid in the design of eco-friendly, efficient, and economic bioprocesses.

Utilizes in silico and mathematical simulations for optimal bioprocess design.

Examines approaches to be used for bioproducts from the lab scale to widely applied microbial biotechnologies.

Presents the latest trends and technologies in the production approaches for microbial bio-products manufacture and application.

This book is ideal for both researchers and academics, as it provides up-to-date knowledge of applied microbial biotechnology approaches for bio-products.

Dr. Mamtesh Singh is presently working as Assistant Professor, Gargi College (University of Delhi), Delhi, India. She has done her graduation and post graduation in the subject of Zoology from University of Delhi and PhD in Biotechnology from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB). She has a teaching experience of over 7 years in Lifesciences/Zoology field. Her research area of interest is Microbial biotechnology for generation of bio-products utilizing biological wastes as cheap renewable resources e.g. biopolymers (polyhydroxyalkanoates; PHA), biofuel etc. She has been working in this area for biopolymer and biofuel production since 2006 in her PhD tenure, short term projects in her workplace, one minor project. Currently she is conducting one major project in same research area. Apart from this she has also been working for application of in silico tools and Petri Net for analysis and modelling in Biotechnology e.g., bacteria identification for selected bioproduct/process, studying microbial metabolism, drug resistance pathway modelling and analysis, bioprocess designing etc. For her significant work in this field, she has also been selected for young scientist award-2018 by National Environment Science Academy (NESA). Dr. Shivani Tyagi is presently working as Assistant Professor, Gargi College (University of Delhi), Delhi, India. She has degrees including a M. Phil in the subject of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Immunology and Research Methodology from C.C.S University and PhD in Bacterial Taxonomy and soil health from Department of Zoology, University of Delhi. She was awarded gold medal for highest marks in post-graduation. She has nearly ten years of teaching experience in the Lifesciences/Zoology fields, specifically teaching cell biology, ecology, environmental science, evolution, animal diversity and bioinformatics courses to undergraduate students. Her research area of interest is bacterial taxonomy, biopolymer and bioplastic. Lt. Dr. Gajendra Pratap Singh is presently working as Assistant Professor, School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (SCIS), Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. He also serves as an Associate NCC officer in JNU. He received his PhD in Applied mathematics from Delhi College of Engineering (now Delhi Technological University) and has seven years of teaching and research experience. His teaching areas of interest are applied mathematics, biostatistics, discrete mathematics, graph theory and their applications. He has published around 30 papers in reputed journals.
