Fisheries resources are an important component of natural resources. It is an important source of high-quality animal protein and food for humans, which provides employment, economic benefits and social welfare for people engaged in fishing activities. It also has played an important role in food safety, economic development, and foreign trade.



Fisheries resources economics is an important branch of both applied economics and resource economics. Its research object is fishery resources and its economic problems. The economics of fishery resources is to focus on the relationship between the demand for human economic activities and the supply of fishery resources, as well as between fishery resources and its development. This book expounds the reasons for the economic problems of fishery resources and the theoretical principles for solving them, so as to reveal the objective rules of the allocation of fishery resources in different regions and at different times, to coordinatethe relationship between the utilization of fishery resources and economic development, and to realize the sustainable development of fishery economy. This book will also provide learning materials for undergraduates, graduate students and practitioners engaged in fishery resources development and scientific management.

Prof. Xinjun ChenDean of College of Marine Sciences Shanghai Ocean University He is also deputy director of the National Ocean Fisheries Engineering and Technology Research Center, director of the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education for the Sustainable Development of Ocean Fisheries Resources, director of the key laboratory of ocean fisheries development of the Ministry of Agriculture, director of the China Ocean Fisheries Data Center, and head of the squid fishing technology group of the China Ocean Fisheries Association. He also serves as a member of the Fisheries Group of the Sixth and Seventh Subject Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and associate Editor of Canadian Journal of Fisher and Aquatic Sciences, and editorial board of Aquaculture and Fishery. He presided over or participated in nearly 70 provincial, ministerial and national projects, including 4 projects on the National Science Fund, and served as the chief of the national project of the National Plan 863 during the 12-five years. He received 3 excellent teaching materials, 2 provincial and ministerial quality courses, and 2 provincial and ministerial teaching results. He won 23 national and provincial ministerial and industry awards, and edited 35 books and textbooks. A total of nearly 600 papers were published, of which more than 400 were published in the CSCD and SCI.
