This book provides a useful text for research students and scientists on the latest knowledge about the immune system of fish, cutting edge technologies and the step required to develop, test and commercialise fish vaccines. It brings together information that is currently difficult to obtain in one book, and highlights problem areas and research topics that still need to be addressed to improve future vaccines.

Professor Alexandra (Sandra) Adams is head of the Aquatic Vaccine Unit at the Institute of Aquaculture, University of Stirling. She has worked on the development of fish vaccines and rapid diagnostic tests since 1985, having graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow (BSc 1979) and University College London (PhD 1983). Professor Adams’ main current research interests include host-pathogen interactions, fish vaccine development, development of multiplex tests for the detection of fish pathogens and components of the fish immune system, and investigation of the effects of feed components and novel feed additives on the immune system and disease susceptibility. Professor Adams is also CEO of Aquatic Diagnostics Ltd, a spin-out company from University of Stirling.

Fish disease causing economic impact in global aquaculture.- Overview of the fish adaptive immune system.- Development of fish vaccines - focusing on methods.- Adjuvants and delivery methods -current and novel.- Fish vaccines - the regulatory process and requirements from the laboratory bench to a final commercial product, including field trials.- Methods for measuring efficacy, safety and potency of fish vaccines.- Potential of DIVA Vaccines for Fish.

"This book provides updated, useful information on the development of vaccines against fish pathogens. ... This book will be useful for students as well as for those who have research interests in the health of fish. The authors are experienced research scientists. ... this book will be welcomed by those who are interested in research to maintain fish health by prevention of losses associated with diseases."
