This manual explains the traditional techniques of working with natural timbers, from basic designs to those requiring considerable knowledge and a high degree of skill, and emphasizes the advantages to be gained from the current range of tools, equipment and manufactured materials. It is concerned with the work of the joiner in producing work that has been designed elsewhere, and covers the range of topic needed from interpreting the design to setting-out and production processes. A number of joinery projects are provided in the form of drawings with a brief specification. These are intended to bring together the principles and features that have been discussed in the book. Each project is capable of being used as a workshop exercise and presents an opportunity to apply the technology, geometry and science of the craft. The contents of this book are designed to provide subject material for practical and theoretical studies at Advanced Craft Level and are presented in a manner which makes the book a source of reference for students following architectural and general building courses.
