When an innocent, genteelly-reared, seventeen-year old is catapulted into the raw realities of farm life, she's a shocked, shattered wreck after just one day and longing for home! It's September 1945. World War II is finally over, but Britain shorter of food than ever and most of Europe starving. So how could she resist Prime Minister Attlee's urgent plea for more women to work on the land? Anxious to do her bit, fly the nest and taste adventure, she joins the Women's Land Army. Constantly sworn at by an exasperated herdsman, she lurches from one near disaster to another, feeling sure there is a conspiracy by belligerent animals, uncooperative machinery and her complaining body to defeat her. But she loves her cows. She will not give up. After all, she is Serving her Country!
