This book is a scholarly examination of the legal relationship between humans and animals in Australia and New Zealand. It asks whether existing laws really do protect animals, and, where the law comes up short, how it could be improved.
The law relating to animals is a consistent subject of reform, and serious cases involving animal interests are launched daily in the courts. As humans begin to exhibit greater concern about the treatment of animals, the law is responding, and the issues surrounding this treatment are becoming more complex.
