Presents the information on various facets of the microbial pathogens of animals. This title provides various things required for an introductory course in veterinary bacteriology and mycology.
The sixth edition of the popular Essentials of Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology provides the latest information on all facets of the microbial pathogens of animals and everything required for an introductory course in veterinary bacteriology and mycology. This book includes the basic characteristics of bacteria and fungi with two chapters on molecular biology and genetics and their applications. Handy glossaries are at the end of most chapters to aid comprehension.
Essentials of Veterinary Bacteriology and Mycology also deals with microbial pathogens of animals and the diseases they cause. Pathogenic bacteria are discussed in the order in which they occur in the latest molecular genetic (Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology) classification. This book is the foremost text in veterinary microbiology and continues to fill an important niche in veterinary education

Gordon R. Carter, DVM, MS, DVSc, is a Professor Emeritus of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and State University in Blacksburg. Carter has published numerous scientific papers and is the senior author of more than a dozen textbooks. Dr. Darla J. Wise, MS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Concord College in Athens, West Virginia, and is the associate editor of Proceedings of the West Virginia Academy of Science. Wise’s research interest is in host-pathogen relationships. She has authored articles on immune responses, characterization of enzymes associated with host-pathogen relationships, and DNA-based methods of disease diag
