This book presents an in-depth exploration of complex metal oxides, focusing on their applications in photocatalysis and biomedical materials. It highlights the practical importance of complex metal oxides, which have gained significant attention in recent years due to their diverse range of properties. The book specifically delves into the most representative series of compounds based on stable structural types of minerals, such as perovskite, fluorite, pyrochlore, corundum, and rutile. It also emphasizes the scientific interest in the pyrochlore mineral structure, which has been shown to exhibit photocatalytic activity.
Recent studies have revealed that some compounds with the pyrochlore structure can act as promising candidates for photocatalysis. Additionally, the book highlights the use of photocatalysis in producing biomedical materials based on natural polymers. These materials possess a unique combination of components assembled in a specific structure, which makes them highly attractive for regenerative medicine associated with cell/tissue regeneration stimulation. Overall, this book offers a comprehensive analysis of the potential of complex metal oxides, particularly those with the pyrochlore structure, and is particularly useful for those researchers working in the fields of green chemistry and biomedical materials science.Dr. Diana G. Fukina was born in 1993, obtained M.Sc. degree in 2016 and Ph.D. in 2020. She currently serves as Head of the Laboratory of Inorganic Materials at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. The field of her research interest is synthesis and characterization of new inorganic compounds based on pyrochlore structure type. The several last years the investigations have been devoted to study of photocatalytic ability of the prepared materials, including improving the effectiveness for wastewater purification. Moreover, she delivers lectures and conducts seminars and laboratory classes in the fields of "Research Methods of Solid State materials", "Structure of Matter" and "Radiochemistry and Radioecology" at the Department of Solid State Chemistry in Lobachevsky University.
Dr. Artem S. Belousov was born in 1988 and obtained his M.Sc. degree in 2011 and Ph.D. in 2016. He currently serves as Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of High-Purity Materials at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. His research focuses on designing heterogeneous photocatalysts based on complex oxides with pyrochlore and perovskite structures for degrading organic pollutants and desulfurizing fuels. Dr. Belousov has authored more than 25 articles in reputable journals such as Green
Chemistry, Sustainable Energy & Fuels, Materials Today Chemistry, Journal of Environmental Chemistry Engineering, and Environmental Research. Furthermore, he works as Associate Professor at the Department of Solid State Chemistry in Lobachevsky University, where he delivers lectures and conducts seminars and laboratory classes in the fields of "Chemical Engineering," "Processes and Devices for Chemical Production," and "Materials Science and Engineering".Prof. Dr. Evgeny V. Suleimanov was born in 1968, obtained Ph.D. in 1994 and Doctor of Sciences in 2003. He currently serves as the Head of the Research Institute for Chemistry at Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod. The field of his research interest is synthesis and characterization of inorganic compounds based on pyrochlore structure type, including thermodynamic investigation. Moreover, he supervises the study of pyrochlore oxides for different photocatalytic processes, including decomposition of organic pollutants, antifungal and antibacterial effect, and radical polymerization. He is the Head of the Department of Solid State Chemistry in Lobachevsky University and delivers lectures in the fields of "Material Sciences", "Research Methods of Solid State materials" and "Structure of Matter".Preface.- 1.
