In this edited volume, Verma and Dubey collate important discussions from international researchers to address major innovations in the sustainable industrial applications of biomass wastes, including processing fundamentals, extraction, purification, properties, and industrial applications.

The amount of biomass waste is rising quickly, and such waste offers numerous advantages for sustainable development, particularly for environmentally friendly industrial use. This book therefore addresses this situation by providing a comprehensive overview of the sustainable industrial uses of biomass wastes. To enable ease of use and to facilitate readers’ ability to implement this information in real-world contexts, the book is divided into three sections. First, the introduction discusses biomass wastes and their classification, processing, sustainability, and more as well as the production of bioproducts. The second part addresses classification in more detail in contexts, including forestry, agriculture, animal, industrial, municipal, and food processing wastes. Last, the third section addresses applications in areas such as electricity generation; lubrication, adhesion, and anticorrosion; green energy storage; catalysis; and more. Through this approach, readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities of biomass wastes and will be able to apply their knowledge in a range of contexts, whether in further research or in industrial and other real-world scenarios.

This book is a vital resource for a broad readership, including students, academics, research professionals, research enterprises, R&D, and defence research laboratories. Especially, those researching and working in fields such as chemical engineering, material science and engineering, nanotechnology, energy, and environmental engineering will benefit greatly from the discussions within.

Chandrabhan Verma is a researcher at the Department of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi. He earned a BSc and MSc at Udai Pratap College, Varanasi, and a PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi in 2017. Dr. Verma is a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and a lifetime member of the World Research Council (WRC). He is a reviewer and editorial board member of various internationally recognized ACS, RSC, Elsevier, Wiley and Springer platforms. Dr. Verma has published numerous research and review articles in different areas of science and engineering at ACS, Elsevier, RSC, Wiley, Springer, etc. He has a total citation of more than 14,089 with an h-index of 65 and an i-10 index of 175. Dr. Verma’s research focuses on designing and developing industrially applicable corrosion inhibitors. He has edited or authored over 40 books for ACS, Elsevier, RSC, CRC, Springer and Wiley. Dr. Verma has received several awards for his academic achievements, including a Gold Medal in materials science (Organic Chemistry; 2010) and Best Publication awards from the Global Alumni Association of IIT-BHU (Second Prize 2013). Shikha Dubey is an Assistant Professor (Analytical Chemistry) at the Department of Chemistry, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University Srinagar (Garhwal) Uttarakhand. She earned a BSc (Hons.) and MSc in analytical chemistry at the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and a PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. After qualifying for the CSIR-NET exam, she joined the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU). Dr. Dubey was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, New Delhi, India. During her research, she synthesized various nanomaterials via simple precipitation methods and green routes to treat metal-laden water and wastewater. Her research interest involves nano-biomaterial synthesis and characterization, development of low-cost adsorbents, nano-adsorbents, magnetic nano-sorbents for water remediation and green-synthesis of materials, characterization and application in environmental remediation, photocatalytic degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants, etc. Dr. Dubey has attended several international and national conferences and delivered expert talks.
