Nanotechnology-based nanomaterials have revolutionized the field of advanced medical applications by offering new possibilities for treatment and diagnosis. Nano-form materials have become increasingly important in modern healthcare due to their ability to improve bioactivity and therapeutic efficiency. For example, nanomaterials can target specific cells or tissues in the body, which can result in more effective treatments with fewer side effects. However, it is important to carefully control the toxicity of nanomedicine and study its potential toxic effects to ensure patient safety.

Moreover, nanomaterials have shown promise in controlling various types of bacteria, viruses, and even SARS-CoV-2. Their small size and unique properties make them effective tools for combating infectious diseases. This book, 'Nanoparticles in Modern Antimicrobial and Antiviral Applications,' aims to address key issues related to nanoparticles and their potential applications in healthcare. The book covers topics such as encapsulated polymer systems and their potential applications in COVID-19 treatment, which are not commonly found in other books. As such, it is a valuable resource for those interested in this field and can provide new insights into the use of nanomaterials for medical applications.

Dr. Kokkarachedu Varaprasad is working as an Associate Professor in the Facultad de Ingeniería, Arquitectura y Diseño, Universidad San Sebastián, Lientur 1457, Concepción, Chile. He received PhD (2011) in biocidal temperature-sensitive hydrogels from the Department of Polymer Science and Technology, Inda. He worked as an Investigator at the Advanced Polymer Research Center (CIPA). He received 3 International Postdoctoral Fellowships at Creighton University USA, Tshwane University of Technology SA, and Universidad de Concepción, Chile. He developed the bioactivity of hybrid nanomaterials for advanced biomedical applications. He has published over 128 articles, including 2 patents, 2 books, and 30 book chapters, has 40 h-index and more than 6500 citations, and is the recipient of 10 research grants (2 projects ranked as 1st and 4th, respectively. He edited special issues for Journals and was a member of several societies. He guided several students in the nano-bio-materials field. His name has been listed in the Top 2% of scientists in the world under biomaterials, nanoscience, and nanotechnology in a recent survey conducted by Stanford University to recognize (2021). His primary objective is to translate primary nano and polymer technology research results for the next generation of biomedical applications.

Prof. Rotimi Sadiku is currently an Emeritus Professor at the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa.
Academic or Professional Affiliation: Institute of Nano Engineering Research (INER), Department of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (Polymer Technology Division), Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa.

Professor Emmanuel Rotimi Sadiku started his career as early as in 1976 as assistant Supervisor at the Zaria Industries Limited Nigeria and later received the Nigeria Government Scholarship to pursue a BSc [Hons.] (1980) degree at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, UK. During this journey, he received numerous awards as best student and then, received the Nigeria government scholarship to pursue his PHD (1986) in Polymer Science at University of Strathclyde. He did a 1½ years postdoctoral fellowship at the CNR/University of Genova, Italy (1989/90) After receiving postdoctoral fellowship award (Swedish Institute Research Fellowship) he joined (1990) the Department of Polymer Technology, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He did spend ½ year at the Faculty of Physics, Freiburg University as Visiting Scientist. In 1999, he later received South African Research Foundation (NRF) Fellowship award to join University of Stellenbosch, Institute for Polymer Science.
